We’ve all made mistakes.
Some mistakes, unfortunately, are not easily forgotten.
As a way of dismissing my own dear mistakes, I’ve composed this poem. It appears in two new poetry anthologies: Bards Annual 2022 (Bards Initiative) and the upcoming Dear You, Poems Through the Heart (Red Penguin).
You can hear the spoken-word version of Dear Mistakes here:
As always thanks to Mark Phillips for adding some rather unique music. Special thanks to Chris MacIntosh a/ka/ Grandfather Rock of Rock ‘n’ Soul Gospel, WCWP radio (Fridays 9PM-11PM and Sundays 6PM-10PM) for playing new poetry.

Have a great day, remember to be kind to yourself, and please subscribe to this blog…if you’re so inclined. 💜 Mary
Dear Mary,
So many things to say! First, I was so happy to see you in class on Monday! Hearing your voice, treasuring your input, hearing your work! Secondly, I love this poem and your collaboration with Mark on the music! Fabulous. Thirdly: We share a publisher! I am currently with Red Penguin and love her so much! I just had a meeting with her the other day about the next book.
How are you doing? How goes life in PA?
Love Linda

Mary, loved the fun way you talked to your former nemesis and with cool soundtrack!
“Predictable” Hmm…Your familiarity seems to suggest that you’re NOT learning the lesson and so will be visited continually UNTIL you master it. Grace, Karma, Groundhog Day. My “visited” recalls a certain “Ebenezer” and 3 spirits. And Bill Murray stars in both.
One of my teachers says we learn more by doing it WRONG than by doing it right. Honestly, that’s been my experience. How about you? Thanks for your creative way of reminding me.

Thank you! Great observations! I’m a slower learner, I suppose. 🧡 Agreed on all accounts.
Groundhog Day with Bill Murray – such an excellent movie, conceptually.
Sending love to you and Eileen, 🧡☕️m

Mary, a P.S….
In thinking about some of the “mistakes” I’ve made, I realize that some are due to my lack of attention to what’s going on NOW. For example, if I have a day where I’m dropping stuff or bumping into things or forgetting stuff…it dawns on me (grace!) that I’m likely already trying to get to the next thing on my to-do list AND not paying attention to what’s in front of me.
And Eileen loved it. “Very clever poem!”
Re: my earlier mention of Groundhog Day – here’s a post I did yesterday to celebrate this classic tale of getting it wrong UNTIL we get it right.
