  1. I so agree about it being a page-turner. But it’s also a novel of its era and I think you have always to look beyond the style and the out of date attitudes when reading ‘classics.’ https://bookheathen.wordpress.com/2015/07/04/the-woman-in-white/
    The REAL heroines of classic fiction are never “pretty”. Marian sort of does it for me anyway. The first time I read Ivanhoe, I could never understand why the hero chose Rowena rather than the infinitely more ‘attractive’ Jessica.
